Understanding Hearing Loss
Hearing loss affects around 2 out of 10 adults in the UK. Most of these people are over the age of 60 and have lost their hearing gradually, but hearing loss can occur at any age.
Children are the next most affected category, usually due to fluid or infection in the middle ear or due to congenital problems or viral illness during early childhood. In the UK, one in every 840 children is born severely or profoundly deaf each year.
